Peeking at your smartphone, scrolling through blogs, jokes, or messages that have been sitting in your inbox for a while? Browsing shared posts in a group or forwarding them to other groups or close friends to keep them entertained?

Sitting at the dining table, ready to eat, but your eyes are glued to the screen. Can you even describe the food on your plate? Did you serve yourself, or did someone else do it for you? Do you know the nutrients in the food you’re about to consume?

Why is it so important to look at your phone instead of focusing on your meal? If your attention is on the screen, why bother eating at all?

Most adults in today’s society are constantly attached to their phones, even during meals and other daily activities. This habit can diminish the enjoyment of the meal, turning something as fundamental as eating into a secondary task.

The activity becomes a robotic routine, where the focus is solely on the screen rather than the taste, texture, and nutrients of the food on the plate in front of us.
