The Wake-Up Call
Battling the “me show” stars
starts with being kind to yourself.
Seriously, let’s admit it — most of us know that one person who always manages to turn a casual coffee-in date into a three hour self-pity session where they never actually bother to ask how you are.
Perhaps it is that family friend, that always lose their wallet whenever you are out to eat, or that brother/sister that is always short of fare while going home. I get it. And speaking from personal experience, it is not fun.
The Wake-Up Call
To be precise, I remember when that proverbial light bulb went on in my head and I just had it. The whole idea of just listening to my friend Sarah’s (this is not her real name) weekend drama for over an hour as she recounted the happenings, all the while, I was sitting silently, after having been fired from my job.
When I tried to share my news, she glanced at her phone and said she had to run. That was my moment of clarity — something had to change.
Creating healthy boundaries can actually be a blessed process for you and those around you if done correctly. Learning how to create boundaries while not feeling like a jerk can be quite easy if certain basic rules are adopted.
